A spot-check by Malawi News Agency (MANA) shows that voter registration for the 2025 General Election has started on a good note in Balaka District despite some communication challenges.
During visits to several centres, including Mseche Primary School, MANA found that some community members initially confused the voter registration with a recent relief food registration taking place in the area.
“I have then notified more people since we still have days before the end of the registration period,” said Alefa M’bawa.
As of Tuesday afternoon, in most centres that MANA visited, data showed that they had passed over 100 accumulative figures from Monday.
District Elections Officer Harry Yohane expressed satisfaction with the turnout, noting that despite the initial confusion, the district is receiving overwhelming support.
“Our civic education team is currently on the ground, day and night sensitising the public on this very important exercise,” he said.
