A form 3 student from St Patrick’s Secondary School in Chiradzulu, Samson Phiri, has received a full scholarship from PRISAM and Maranatha Academy to continue his studies at Maranatha Boys Academy.
Samson passed his JCE with 6 As and 5 Bs in all subjects and was unable to report for classes due to a fee balance of K480,000.
Samson’s parents appealed for support in the media, hoping to find a sponsor for their son’s education. Their plea caught the attention of PRISAM, a private schools association, who contacted the Managing Director of Maranatha Academy, Ernest Kaonga, to offer the boy a place at their boys’ campus.
Dr Kaonga agreed to the offer and said that Samson will be under full contribution courtesy of Maranatha Academy and PRISAM. He lauded the boy’s academic performance and said that the nation cannot afford to lose such a brilliant boy.
“We have stepped in to offer the boy a full scholarship. We will pay his fees, meet his expenses (pocket money) and if he qualifies for public university we promise to even meet his university fees. These are future leaders and Maranatha Academy plus PRISAM we are here to support the government to have a well-educated nation,” said Kaonga.
The Vice President of PRISAM, Patricia Chisi, also commended Dr Kaonga for accepting their offer and encouraged other schools who are members of PRISAM to emulate Maranatha Academy’s gesture. She said that PRISAM is delighted to be part of promoting education in the country.
Samson’s father, Emmanuel Phiri, expressed his gratitude to Maranatha and PRISAM for what he described as timely intervention. He said that his son’s future could have been doomed without their assistance and prayed for God’s blessings upon them.
“This is what l was looking for and l must say thank you Dr Kaonga for this assistance. May God bless you otherwise my son’s future could have been doomed,” said Phiri.
