The Private Schools Association of Malawi (PRISAM) has lauded the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) for promptly disbursing center fees ahead of next month’s Malawi School Certificate of Education Examination.
In a statement, PRISAM President Dr Ernest Kaonga expressed relief that MANEB has finally disbursed the center fees, alleviating the uncertainty that arose when MANEB initially communicated that the disbursement would be delayed.
Last week, PRISAM raised concerns about the delay, stating that it had placed many private schools in a difficult position, as public schools are provided with mobile labs while private schools depend on these funds.
“We can now confirm that private schools have received the center fees, which will be used to purchase materials for practical subjects,” said Kaonga.
However, he urged private schools to purchase the materials promptly, as they are not allowed to do so once examinations are in progress.
“This is the right time for them to get organized since they have received the funds. There is no room for excuses now because MANEB has completed the disbursement process,” Kaonga added.
Prior to the payment, MANEB Executive Secretary Dorothy Nampota assured private schools that the board was working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
