Police at Lumbadzi in Lilongwe have urged faith and traditional leaders to support their campaign, which is against mob justice and murder.
This comes as Lumbadzi Police Station revealed that criminal cases have increased by 11% and road accidents have decreased by 10% during the first quarter of 2025, according to their publicist, Felix Kwinyani.
Officer-In-Charge at the station, Dennis Banda, appealed to the local authorities to preach against the vice, including suicide.
He said this at a Station Executive Committe (SEC) meeting, which was held at Kamuzu International Airport’s Civil Aviation Hall.
Traditional Authority M’bangombe commended the police for their efforts in combating crime and encouraged them to continue their work to make his area crime-free.
Mob justice is becoming a norm to people as evidenced by Tuesday’s Chisiyo Police Unit vandalism at Zamkutu in Lilongwe.
Security Expert Aubrey Kabisala, as quoted by the Malawi News Agency (MANA), lamented that mob justice brings implications and destroys evidence of people committing crimes.
“The participants of mob justice are also offending the law, which is also a challenge rather, people should avoid taking the laws into their own hands.
