Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism on Friday toured Chigumula light industrial park in Blantyre and was left impressed with progress at the site, where a contractor, Mark Construction Company, is on the ground.
“We came to appreciate progress and we are satisfied with the work and we will write a report to be presented in Parliament,” one of the legislators, Chimwemwe Chipungu, said.
Malawi Investment Trade Centre (MITC) intends to develop 22.7 hectares at Chigumula into an industrial park, which is expected to have factory shells for small and medium enterprises for value addition operations, with higher affinity for export trade and industrial linkages.
“We want to make Chigumula a model industrial park,” MITC Chief Executive Officer, Paul Kwengwere said.
The industrial park, which is expected to be launched before the end of the year, is located in Traditional Authority Kapeni’s area along the Limbe –Thyolo road.
