Nsanje District Council Chairperson, Mike Kafalachi has appealed to community development structures to prioritise agriculture infrastructure to realise an increase in agricultural productivity and commercialisation.
Kafalachi made the remarks on Thursday during a district agriculture field day at Gooke Irrigation Scheme in the area of Traditional Authority Mlolo in Nsanje.
Kafalachi observed that most developmental structures like Area Development Committees dwell much on health and education structures.
“For our country to achieve Agenda 2063 pillar number 1 which is improved agricultural productivity and commercialisation there is a need for development structures to include agriculture infrastructures in our planning,” Kafalachi said.
Director of Agricultural Environment and Natural Resources, James Lichapa said the field day was organised to encourage farmers to follow modern ways of farming.
One of the farmers from Google Village, Godwell Fella said the field day was an eye-opener, which has enabled him to learn modern ways of farming.
