The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) believes that a well-informed and empowered media is essential for fostering transparency and economic development.
Akosa Hiwa, the Bank’s Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager has said this in Blantyre when presenting a donation of K3 million towards 2024 World Press Freedom Day celebrations, scheduled for 3rd and 4th May in Mangochi.
Hiwa added that NBM will also sponsor business and economics journalist of the year award for both print and electronic categories.
Chikondi Kasambara, the Board Member for the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter, said the support will go towards the purchase of prizes for the winners during the MISA Malawi Annual Media Awards Gala dinner.
The local theme for this year is ‘Guardians of Democracy, Championing Media Independence for Credible Elections’.
