Authorities at Mzuzu Central Hospital are appealing to companies, organisations, and well-wishers to assist with the construction of additional rooms to ease the space challenges faced by patients.
The hospital’s Director General, Dr John Chipolombwe, made the plea when Bliss Pharmaceuticals donated medicines and other items worth K30 million to the hospital.
Dr Chipolombwe said that the hospital was built some time ago and that the population of the city and surrounding districts it serves is growing.
As a result, the current facilities are no longer adequate.
“We are grateful that Bliss Pharmaceuticals has provided us with medications and many other items. These will be helpful since the hospital lacked some of these drugs, such as malaria medications, painkillers, and many others,” said Dr Chipolombwe.
In his remarks, Gift Machisawo, head of marketing at Bliss Pharmaceuticals in the Northern Region, said the company made the donation as part of giving back to the community, organisations, and companies that buy and use their products.
“We have done this as part of our corporate social responsibility, and we believe that the medications and equipment we have donated will assist people in the Northern Region with health issues,” explained Machisawo.
Previously, the company also made similar donations to Kamuzu and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospitals.
