Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has successfully collected K656.8 billion in the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year.
MRA Commissioner General, John Biziwick, disclosed this in Blantyre during a media training on new tax measures.
However, the figure is slightly lower than the tax collector’s K748.1 billion target, which it attributes to low trade tax as well as fraud in Value Added Tax (VAT).
Nonetheless, Biziwick indicated that the amount is 41% higher than what was collected during the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the authority targets to collect K3.26 trillion by the end of this financial year.
