Ministry impressed with Social Cash Transfer Programme

Ministry of Gender has expressed delight with the positive impact that the Social Cash Transfer Programme is making in Nkhata Bay by transforming lives of beneficiaries.

Principal Secretary of Finance and Administration in the Ministry, Nwazi Mnthambala, said this on Wednesday at Nkhwali in the area of Senior Chief Timbiri when she led a team from the ministry during a door-to-door visit to beneficiaries to appreciate how the money is being put into use.

Mnthambala advised them not to use assets accumulated through the programme as a tool for Gender Based Violence.

One of the programme’s beneficiaries, Timothy Mlauz, 58, testified that he is ready to exit the programme to pave way for others to also benefit as he is now having five goats, 24 chickens,purchased 15 iron sheets and has managed save about K150,000 in village savings group.

SCTP is being implemented by Malawi Government through the National Local Government Finance Committee with funding from Multi Donor Trust Fund and World Bank and currently benefiting 6,475 households in Nkhata Bay.
