MPs asked to avoid sensationalising hunger

Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, has urged members of Parliament to avoid making exaggerated remarks concerning hunger.

Kawale made the remarks in Parliament when he responded to a question from Mulanje South legislator, Santigo Phiri, who inquired about the measures implemented by ADMARC to ensure a consistent availability of maize, considering the prevailing hunger in Mulanje and other districts.

In his response, the minister emphasised that there is an allocation of over 17,000 metric tonnes of maize to various ADMARC depots and over 14,000 metric tons of maize flour has already been distributed.

Richard Chimwendo Banda, the Leader of the House, echoed Kawale’s sentiments, cautioning against the tendency by some legislators to sensationalise important issues to ‘score political marks’ in the House.
