Moroccan Embassy in Malawi commemorates 46th Anniversary of Green March

The Moroccan Embassy in Malawi on Tuesday marked the 46th anniversary of the Green March, celebrating Morocco’s peaceful reclamation of the Sahara.

Ambassador Abdelkader Naji described the march as “a symbol of Morocco’s peaceful commitment to its territorial integrity,” highlighting its role in uniting Moroccans in 1975.

Naji emphasised the strong partnership between Morocco and Malawi, reflecting shared goals for development.

“Our bilateral relationship reflects a deep commitment to mutual progress,” he said, noting joint achievements in various sectors.

Addressing Africa’s challenges, Naji emphasised, “Africa must stand united in addressing threats like climate change and terrorism.”  He pointed to Morocco’s stability as an example for other nations seeking peace and growth.

Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, lauded Morocco’s contribution to African unity.

“The partnership between our countries has yielded positive outcomes,” she said, citing Morocco’s role in supporting Malawi’s development efforts.

Naji highlighted Morocco’s autonomy initiative, backed by the UN, as the only viable solution for the Sahara issue. “Morocco remains dedicated to a peaceful solution based on compromise,” he said, echoing King Mohammed VI’s words: “The Sahara is, and always will be, an integral part of Morocco’s territorial integrity.”

Concluding his address, Naji reflected, “The spirit of the Green March continues to drive Morocco’s ambitions for progress and unity across the Sahara and beyond.”
