MEHA for pandemic mitigation strategies

Malawi Environmental Health Association (MEHA) says environmental health practitioners need to brainstorm on new scientific knowledge that can help the country counter a spate of pandemics.

MEHA president, Professor Save Kumwenda, made the remarks when receiving K1 million from CDH Investment Bank (CDHIB) as a contribution to the association’s Annual General Conference, slated for 4 to 5 September 2024.

”Environmental health professionals are aware that due to climate change, pandemics and new diseases will keep coming. The research-based knowledge we will share will create a basis for the advice we give to the government, the private sector and NGOs that work on environmental health, like we always do,” he said.

CDHIB Chief Operating Officer, Steven Chikoti, said the MEHA conference is significant since it will solicit action plans, best practices and technologies that will foster good health among people who contribute to the country’s economic growth.

Chikoti said CDHIB is committed to assisting the nation in achieving Malawi’s Growth and Development Strategy III, the Malawi 2063 agenda and its implementation plan to support the achievement of global sustainable development goals.

“We appreciate the efforts from the Government and partners that have been made towards achieving the goals, but there is still more work to be done in enhancing preventive health. Bridging this gap requires a concerted effort from all stakeholders, including financial institutions such as ourselves,” Chikoti said.

The conference will be held under the theme ‘Protecting Everyone’s Health in the New Era’.
