Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says it will test over 6,000 election management devices and address any related technical challenges during a pilot voter registration exercise.
To run in selected centres across the country between 13-18 September 2024, MEC also hopes to identify any operational challenges ahead of the mass voter registration for next year’s elections, which rolls out next month.
Speaking during a meeting with stakeholders in Blantyre, MEC Commissioner responsible for legal issues Caroline Mfune said that in the Southern Region, the exercise will be done in Nsanje and Blantyre districts.
In Blantyre, the pilot registration phase will be conducted at the Blantyre Tax Office, Namiwawa LEA School, Catholic Institute FP School and Kabula FP School among others.
