In a bid to enhance the media’s role in promoting national quality standards, the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) is training journalists at the ongoing 2024 MBS Media Workshop in Salima.
MBS Director General Professor Benard Thole stressed the pivotal role journalists play in advocating for and upholding quality standards in the country.
Thole highlighted that the workshop aims to empower journalists to communicate information about quality standards in a manner that is easily understood by the general public, simplifying complex technical information and presenting it clearly and engagingly.
Public Relations Officer for the Malawi Bureau of Standards, Monica Khombe, expressed the organisation’s commitment to training journalists and broadcasters in quality standards news reporting.
Khombe said the objective of enlightening the public about the actual roles and functions of the Malawi Bureau of Standards, aiming to enhance transparency and understanding in the country.
Secretary General for Community Radios in Malawi, Luciano Milala, thanked MBS for organising the workshop and recognised the importance of empowering media professionals and community broadcasters with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively report on quality standards.
MBS is a statutory organisation established in 1972, with a mandate to promote metrology, standardization, and quality assurance of commodities and their manufacture, production, and processing.
