Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs says Malawi should have a strong statistical system as statistics is a fundamental pillar for development.
Minister responsible, Simplex Chithyola Banda, said without data, plans of economic development and allocation of resources become difficult.
He has said this in Lilongwe during launch of the institution of cooperation agreement on the development of capacity for statics and microeconomic analysis between Malawi and the government of the Kingdom of Norway.
Commissioner of Statistics at National Statistical Office, Shelton Kanyanda, said the agreement will ease challenges of capacity building and financial support.
Norwegian Ambassador to Malawi, Ingrid Marie Mikelsen, assured the government of Malawi of its commitment to boost the country’s statistical system.
The cooperation agreement on the development of capacity for statics and microeconomic analysis between the two governments will run up until 2028.
