LL Police nabs four men suspected of selling knock-off cement

Police in Lilongwe have arrested four men for allegedly selling 30 bags of fake cement made of quarry dust worth K534,000 to a 68-year-old woman (name withheld).

Publicist for Lilongwe Police, Hastings Chigalu, has identified the suspects as Lyton Yohane, 42, Joseph Green, 42, Wilson Ogren, 48, and Kayinga Nololo, 50.

Chigalu says the men displayed their counterfeit cement near a shop along Kamuzu Procession Road and convinced the elderly woman to buy the cement from them by claiming it was cheaper than what hardware shops were offering.

However, when she returned home and wanted to use it for construction, the builders informed her that the cement was a knock-off.

The suspects will appear in court soon to answer a case of Found in Possession of Counterfeit Products.
