Likoma MP cautions beneficiaries against selling relief maize

Member of Parliament (MP) for Likoma District, Ashems Songwe, has cautioned beneficiaries on the island against selling relief maize under the 2024/25 lean season food insecurity response.

Songwe was speaking during the distribution exercise of maize to 543 households in Likoma and Chizumulu Islands, stressing that the purpose of the relief maize is to ensure that the most vulnerable households are relieved of hunger over the next three months.

District Commissioner (DC) for Likoma, Abubakar Nkhoma, said he was thankful to committee members for identifying the very needy households that needed the actual support from the programme.

A beneficiary from Msoka Village in Chizumulu Island, Grace Mtafu, said she was grateful to the government for the relief maize as it will help in alleviating hunger in her family since she did not have food at home.
