His Majesty King Mohammed VI has accepted an invitation from United States President Donald Trump to join a newly proposed Peace Board as a founding member, Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates has announced.
According to an official statement issued in Rabat, President Trump invited the Moroccan monarch, in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to participate in the initiative, which aims to contribute to peace efforts in the Middle East and promote a new approach to resolving conflicts worldwide.
According to the statement, the Peace Board will be reserved for a select group of internationally recognised leaders committed to fostering a secure and prosperous future for coming generations. The statement notes that participation in the Board is strictly by invitation from the President of the United States.
The Moroccan Government said the invitation reflects international recognition of King Mohammed VI’s enlightened leadership and his role as a key peace actor, while also demonstrating the trust enjoyed by the Sovereign at both bilateral and international levels.
Welcoming President Trump’s commitment and vision for promoting peace, His Majesty has agreed to join the initiative. In this context, Morocco will ratify the founding charter of the Peace Board.
The Board is expected to take the legal form of an international organisation, with a mandate focused on promoting stability, restoring governance and ensuring lasting peace in regions affected by, or threatened with, conflict. Its work will be guided by practical cooperation, effective action and result-oriented partnerships.
Furthermore, Morocco welcomed the announcement of the launch of the second phase of President Trump’s comprehensive peace plan, as well as the official establishment of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza as a temporary transitional body.
Reaffirming Morocco’s longstanding position, the statement said that under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom remains firmly committed to a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East. This includes support for the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side in peace with Israel.
