The Japanese Embassy, in partnership with Partners in Health, has donated a portable digital x-ray machine to Neno District Health Office (DHO) to enhance tuberculosis (TB) screening and diagnostic services.
Japan’s Ambassador to Malawi, Yoichi Oya, reaffirmed the embassy’s commitment to supporting Malawi’s healthcare sector and other key areas, including education, agriculture, and infrastructure.
In his remarks, Executive Director of Partners in Health, Basimenye Nhlema, expressed gratitude to the Japanese Embassy and Fuji Film for their support, noting that the machine will significantly improve TB diagnosis and treatment in the district.
Neno District Commissioner, Rosemary Nawasha, said that the machine would enable the hospital to provide swift and accurate TB screenings, ensuring timely treatment for local communities.
The equipment is worth $72,000 (approximately K120 million) a grant from the Japanese Embassy under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
