Minister of Transport and Public works, Jacob Hara, has urged community leaders and residents to avoid encroaching and building within road reserves.
Hara said this during when he inspected the M1 road project on Tuesday.
He said the project faces significant delays due to social, logistical and technical challenges, despite the government being impressed with the progress of the rehabilitation and widening of the M1 road.
The minister also confirmed that he has agreed with the contractors that about 30 kilometers of the road to be completed before the rainy season, as long as road reserve encroachers pave way for the smooth construction.
The rehabilitation project covers the M1 road from Kamuzu International Airport junction to Kasungu, spanning 102 Kilometres as Lot 1.
It then extends from Kasungu to Jenda, covering 85.5 Kilometres as Lot 2.
