Malawi is set to send its first batch of workers to Israel on Wednesday, after signing an agreement under the Malawi/Israel labour export programme.
The agreement with Israel was signed in April this year. From the deal, Malawi shall be sending about 3,000 labour migrants to work in farms in Israel.
Director of Planning in the Ministry of Labour, Patricia Zimpita, said the programme is essential for individuals travelling abroad to acquire vital information before their departure, ensuring they are well-prepared for their journey.
Zimpita added that some Malawian candidates who travelled to Israel through private recruiters encountered challenges, resulting in their return home.
She said this experience has led the government to initiate an orientation programme for candidates before their departure, aiming to better prepare them for the experience abroad.
