Food Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has stressed the need for enhanced understanding and use of digital tools by Farmers Field School (FFS) in monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) to improve and support small holder farmers’ sustainable production amid climate change-related threats.
FAO Country Representative, Zhijun Chen, made the call in Salima on Tuesday during a four-day training workshop for 35 FFS practitioners in MEL from around the world.
Chen said they will develop a strategy to localise and roll out improved gender responsive MEL systems for FFS in represented countries and regions.
According to FAO, FFS supports the development of the skills and knowledge needed by farmers for informed and locally adapted decision-making on the sustainable management and improvement of agricultural production, livelihood diversification and ecosystem preservation.
Participating nations include Uganda, India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Vietnam, Italy, Burkina Faso, Solomon Islands, Georgia, Nepal, Chile, Egypt, Rwanda, Italy, Ecuador, China, Kenya, Burundi, Egypt, Mozambique and Zambia.
