Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima believes the Equals Project is promoting education standards in the country.
Wirima noted that with funding from the project, teachers are now receiving University Certificates of Education (UCE).
She made these remarks during the 7th graduation ceremony at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), where 40 teachers were among the 745 graduates.
Dr Mathews Mkandawire, Coordinator of the Equals Project at LUANAR, said the sponsored teachers will enhance science education in their respective schools, having been equipped with various skills.
Tionge Mawowa, one of the new graduates and a teacher at St. Mary’s Girls Secondary School in Karonga, expressed that the knowledge gained will significantly improve education standards in Malawi, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
Funded by the World Bank, the Equals Project supports the Ministry of Education with a goal of training 800 undergraduate teachers.
Upon graduation, these teachers will hold university qualifications enabling them to teach mathematics and science subjects in schools across the country.
