Eastern Region Football Association Vice-General Secretary, Elia Nyirongo, says teams in the region are working hard—those in the Durata Premier Division League are battling for the championship and survival, while Division One sides are fighting for promotion.
Nyirongo believes this stems from players striving for individual awards, like being the top goal scorer.
Changalume Barracks’ General Secretary, Lyson Mikundi, acknowledged this and added that the fruits of the region’s association are being reaped.
“We are fighting for a place in the national elite league next season. With the help of God, we are sure will make it,” Mikundi said.
This comes as the teams in all divisions are in the second round.
Nyirongo said the association is yet to register serious setbacks as the ones observed were failure, by some teams, to fulfil their away fixtures.
“For example, Malawi Defence Force Marine Football Club failed due to the process of procuring fuel, and Mighty Academy in Phalombe had internal issues, which led them not to fulfil their home fixtures,” he said.
Eastern Region Football Association leagues are expected to conclude between January and February 2026.
