DoDMA rolls out disaster response clusters

Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) has established disaster response clusters to ensure efficient and timely response to disasters in the country during the rainy season.

Commissioner for DoDMA, Charles Kalemba, made the remarks in Lilongwe during a handover ceremony of three vehicles worth over K150 million which Care Malawi has donated to DoDMA — to help in the response to disasters.

Disaster response clusters are response committees that work together in areas of transport, logistics, health, education, communication and coordination to ensure effective response to disasters.

Kalemba said the clusters have been activated to counter the impending Cyclone Chido.

Country Director for Care Malawi, Pamela Kuwali, said the vehicles will play a crucial role.
