Police at Jenda in Mzimba District have apprehended a traditional leader, Inkosana Gabriel Mgomezulu Bwanamdoko and 12 others on suspicion of assaulting and wrongfully confining Wiseman Mhone.
They were arrested on Monday after reports surfaced that the chief and his people were holding Mhone hostage and that they heavily assaulted him.
According to the Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police Station, Macfarlen Mseteka, it has been established that the victim and the suspects had been involved in a land dispute since last year.
“When the issue was brought before Traditional Authority Mabulabo, through Inkosana Davide Jere, he ruled in favour of the victim, which did not please the suspects,” said Mseteka.
Inkosana Gabriel Mgomezulu Bwanamdoko and the other 12 have been charged with acts of bodily harm, kidnapping or abduction with intent to confine a person and malicious damage.
