Communities have been urged to plant trees and protect the environment to mitigate the effects of climate shocks that have increasingly impacted the country.
United Civil Servants SACCO, Chief Executive Officer, Francis Waliwa made the call during a pine tree planting exercise at Chibwaka in Viphya Plantation in Mzimba district.
According to Waliwa, the institution will plant 280, 000 trees during the 2024/2025 tree planting season.
Waliwa said they planted 14,000 seedlings on a 9 hectare land in the forest in one day, targeting 2 million trees by 2028.
Guest of honour at the event, councillor Manson Waya, who represented Mzuzu City mayor commended United Civil Servants SACCO for the green initiative, saying trees play a crucial role in human life.
