Dedza District Council calls off council meeting

Dedza District Council on Thursday called off its full council meeting, citing the absence of several members of Parliament.

District Council Chairperson, Councillor Stanley Manase, acknowledged that they had enough quorum to proceed but said they want to ensure collective scrutiny of the district’s allocations for relief response to households affected by hunger.

Chairperson of the Dedza District Civil Society Organisations Network, Osborne Nyirenda, argued that the meeting could have proceeded despite the absence of the parliamentarians, considering the significant resources required to organise such a meeting.

Senior Chief Kachindamoto echoed the sentiments.

“People out there are looking for development in wards and constituencies and [the] issue of hunger is a serious matter,” She noted.
