2006 is such a long way back but it appears time has flown so fast that two of Pop Star Madonna’s Malawian adopted children, David Banda and Mercy James, have now even graduated from high school (equivalent to secondary school here in Malawi).
Madonna first run into David at an orphanage in Mchinji District in October 2006 and went on to adopt him, despite pockets of resistance from some local organisations.
Come May 2009, she would adopt Chifundo ‘Mercy’ James from an orphanage in Blantyre, also in Malawi.
Fast forward to May 13, 2024, the ‘Material Girl’ announced through her Facebook page how proud she is that the two have graduated high school in the course of ‘The Celebration Tour’ which she embarked upon on October 14,2023.
Making a poetic tribute to her mother on Mother’sDay, Madonna goes on to drop hints that her children have been her steady rock throughout the tour.
“Along the way Rocco was painting…Lola was writing songs…David and Mercy graduated high school! No easy way into the motherhood game,” she writes.
Madonna is also mother to Malawian twins Stella and Estere.
