Minister of Natural Resources Jean Mathanga has called for urgent acceleration of global climate action and fair, accessible climate financing as negotiators enter the final week of COP30 in Belem, Brazil.
Mathanga said this in a statement delivered on behalf of the 44 Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in Brazil, noting that the world’s poorest nations continue to bear the worst effects of climate change despite contributing the least to global emissions.
She highlighted that climate-induced disasters are eroding food security, water access, livelihoods and economic stability across LDCs, stressing the need for immediate and meaningful implementation of global commitments.
Mathanga said COP30, as an Implementation COP, must ensure that outcomes from the first Global Stocktake move beyond commitments into concrete action.
She also urged countries to align their updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) with the 1.5°C goal and accelerate the development and execution of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
She also noted that Malawi is in the final stages of completing its National Adaptation Plan and updating its NDCs—demonstrating the country’s ongoing efforts to meet its climate obligations.
COP30 Climate Summit started on 10 November 2025 and will conclude on 21 November 2025.
