SADC EXTRA-ORDINARY VIRTUAL SUMMIT ENDS

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Extra Ordinary Virtual Summit on the cholera situation in the region which President Dr Lazarus Chakwera attended virtually has ended with a call to all member states to among others strengthen regional collaboration on cross-border outbreak risk assessment and public health surveillance.

In addition, member states have been urged to increase investment in current cholera emergency response, accelerate local and regional manufacturing of cholera vaccines, and increase access to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema has been designated as the Regional Cholera Champion to spearhead the fight against cholera in the SADC region.
