Chinyamula is a motivator — Sports Minister

Minister of Youths and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire, says Leticia Chinyamula, who was awarded as the Most Promising Player at the 2023 COSAFA awards in South Africa on Thursday night, will motivate other athletes to do well.

She beat fellow Scorchers and Ascent Academy teammate Rose Kabzere and Zambia’s Esther Banda to win the award.

Mkandawire has told MBC Digital that the award signifies how improved Women’s football is in the country.

However, Scorchers’ Captain Tabitha Chawinga came short in her bid for the Women’s Player of the Year award, which was secured by Rachael Kundananji of Zambia.

Similarly, Ntopwa and Scorchers goalkeeper Mercy Sikelo missed out as the honour for top goalkeeper went to South Africa’s Andile Dlamini.

In the men’s category, Percy Tau was crowned the Men’s Player of the Year.

Late Ronwen Williams secured the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, Desire Ellis claimed the Women’s Coach of the Year title, Rulani Mokwena emerged victorious as the Men’s Coach of the Year and Thapelo Maseko clinched the Men’s Most Promising Player award.
