Chakwera describes President Murmu’s visit as inspirational for girls

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has said the visit by India’s president Shrimati Droupad Murmu to Malawi has inspired girls at a time the country continues to strengthen its strategies aimed empowering them through education and ending child marriages.

Dr Chakwera has said this at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during a state dinner he hosted for the visiting India President.

Dr Chakwera says President Murmu is a woman with substance and a perfect example of what a country can achieve if girls are empowered and educated.

He says as a He for She Champion, he will advocate for increased support towards girls education and ensure all challenges girls face are addressed.

On her part, President Murmu has said Malawi and India shares a long standing beneficial relationship especially in the areas of trade, education and health.

She further says India will continue to work with Malawi in areas that can benefit both countries.

This is the first time for an Indian President to visit Malawi.
