Business moguls call for conducive business environment

Industry captains have asked the government to provide a conducive environment for the recovery and growth of the country’s economy.

The business gurus have made the call in Mangochi during the official opening of the 2024 Lakeshore Business Leaders Summit organised by the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI).

Lekani Katandula, President of MCCCI, says the government should re-work on corporate tax on profits above K10 billion, which he believes instead of enticing investors may scare them away.

On his part, Sosten Gwengwe, Minister of Trade and Industry, says the government has made strides in creating a conducive environment.

Gwengwe says in the current budget, for example, Capital Hill has made production in the country cheaper through the reduction of some taxes.
