Buleya Lule case adjourned

High Court in Lilongwe has adjourned the murder case related to the death of Buleya Lule to 12 February 2025.

One of the defence lawyers, Gift Katundu, confirmed to MBC that the court had convened for sentencing, but the process required the prosecution to present evidence of aggravating factors, while the defence was to provide witness statements in mitigation.

Katundu said that this process was supposed to happen after the case was adjourned on 20 December 2024 but failed due to closure of some offices and this made it difficult for both sides to conduct the work.

On 20 December 2024, the High Court in Lilongwe convicted six out of ten police officers suspected to have had a hand in relation to the death of Buleya Lule, who was in police custody for his alleged involvement in the abduction of a person with albinism in 2019.

The six are Paul Chipole ,Ikram Malata, Richard Kalawire, Innocent Lwanda, Maxwell Mbuzi and Abel Maseya.
