Silver Strikers are set to face Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos in the seventh edition of the Airtel Top 8 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe this afternoon.
The last time the stadium hosted such a fixture, before undergoing renovations, was on May 14, 2019, a 1-0 victory for the home side against Mighty Wanderers in the quarter-final.
Silver’s Coach, Peter Mponda, remains confident in his squad’s ability to breakthrough.
“This is an important game. I believe Dedza will come with a defensive mindset, but we have the players to unlock their strategy and get a positive result,” Mponda said.
However, Silver will be without Tatenda M’balaka and Atusaye Nyondo due to injury.
Dedza Coach, Andrew Bunya, is optimistic about his team’s chances.
“We’ve done our homework and believe we can get the result we want. Silver are strong at home but we have a solid plan to beat them. The morale in our camp is high,” Bunya said.
The second leg of the tie will take place on October 20 at Dedza Stadium.
The last time the two teams met was in the top flight league back in April at Dedza Stadium and the match ended in a one-all stalemate.
This will be Dedza’s second appearance in the Airtel Top 8, having made their debut in 2022.
