Airtel Africa records 7.9% customer growth, expands mobile money services

Airtel Africa has recorded a 7.9% growth in its customer base, reaching 163.1 million subscribers. The company has also seen a 13.8% increase in data customer penetration, bringing the total number of data users to 71.4 million.

In a statement, Airtel Africa Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Taldar,  attributed the growth to continued investments aimed at expanding financial inclusion across its markets. This strategy has led to an 18.3% rise in mobile money subscribers to 44.3 million, with transaction values increasing by 33.3% in constant currency.

“We have delivered an improvement in both operating and financial performance in the last quarter, driven by our refined strategy focused on delivering a great customer experience across all touchpoints,” said Taldar.

“An increasingly important component of this is providing a best-in-class network, digitising and simplifying the customer journey. Our focus on speed and quality execution is enabling us to unlock substantial growth opportunities across our markets and business segments, where demand remains significant. This has resulted in a further acceleration of constant currency revenue growth to 21.3% in the most recent quarter,” added Taldar.

The results, which cover the nine months ending 31 December 2024, highlight Airtel Africa’s continued expansion and strategic focus on improving digital and financial services across its operational markets.
