FOMO 10 points off summit

FOMO FC are now 10 points off the summit of the 2026/27 NBS National Division League after a 2-0 victory over Ndirande Stars at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre on Thursday.

Sebastian Chinsomba opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 79th minute, before Divason Daudi doubled the lead six minutes later, capitalising on an assist from Malizani Kalema.

FOMO started strongly and dominated possession but failed to utilise their chances. Chimwemwe Kamowa had an opportunity to put his side ahead in the 22nd minute, but his shot went over the crossbar.

Ndirande Stars also had their moments, with Khareed Allie failing to convert a chance in the 39th minute after receiving a cross from Chrispo Andrea.

Ndirande started the second half strongly but failed to find the breakthrough.

Their hopes were dented in the 75th minute when they conceded a penalty after a foul on a FOMO player inside the box.

Chinsomba converted the spot-kick in the 79th minute, before Daudi added the second in the 85th minute to seal the victory.

Chimwemwe Kamowa of Fomo was named Man of the Match after the 90 minutes.

FOMO Head Coach Mtchindi Mhango said the team aims to return to the elite league, but must continue winning games.

Mhango said the team struggled with scoring goals in the first round of the league but worked on the problem during the recess.

Ndirande Stars coach Dida Zingwangwa accepted the defeat, saying it is part of the game.

Zingwangwa urged fans not to lose hope in the team and pledged that the side will continue working hard to improve.

On the log table, both teams have played 13 games, with FOMO sixth on 18 points and Ndirande Stars ninth on 15 points.

Songwe Border United lead the table with 28 points, while Changalume Barracks are bottom with four points.

League action returns on Saturday, with Songwe Border United hosting Ntaja United and Embangweni facing Changalume Barracks.

On 20 September, Extreme FC will face Namitete Zitha, while Chilobwe United will play Mighty Tigers.
