Ministry of Industrialisation, Business, Trade and Tourism has emphasised its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote structured market systems, strengthen private sector competitiveness and advance inclusive economic growth.
Director of Industry in the ministry, Clement Phangaphanga, made the remarks during the launch of the Malawi IGNITE Challenge by the World Food Programme in Lilongwe.
Country Director for the World Food Programme, Hyoung-Joon Lim, said that as Malawi continues to face interconnected challenges such as climate shocks, market volatility and persistent food insecurity, innovation remains essential in addressing these issues.
Lim added that through digital solutions, improved post-harvest technologies, value addition and innovative financing, Malawi has an opportunity to unlock new pathways that strengthen the entire food system.
Country Representative for the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Sam Njoroge, said both the government and the private sector have a responsibility to ensure that Malawi embraces innovations that improve food security such as the Malawi IGNITE Challenge.
The Malawi IGNITE Challenge is an initiative that identifies and supports locally driven innovations and enterprises addressing food security and nutrition challenges.
