Sergeant Twalick Mpaweni, a police officer in Zomba, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl who was in police custody.
The girl was caught stealing clothes and taken to the police station on August 27, 2023. That night, Sergeant Mpaweni allegedly offered to let her go in exchange for sex and gave her back the stolen clothes and a police flag to keep warm.
The Independent Complaints Commission is investigating this case and Chief Legal Officer, Nicely Msowoya says they are determined to see to see this case through.
Meanwhile, Zomba police spokesperson Patrick Musa has requested for more time before commenting on the matter.
Sergeant Mpaweni will appear in court tomorrow, Wednesday.
