Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda has called for unity in the fight against human trafficking as one way of championing justice, protection, and freedom for all.
Justice Mzikamanda made the remarks at UNICEF ground in Lilongwe during commemorations marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons under the theme ‘Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking,’
“This day stands as a stark reminder of the pervasive and serious crime of human trafficking that continues to affect millions of people worldwide, stripping them of their dignity, freedom, and basic human rights, ” Mzikamanda said.
“Children, with their innocence and vulnerability, are often targeted by traffickers who exploit their need for protection and care. They are lured or coerced into situations where they suffer unimaginable hardships, robbed of their childhood, and subjected to physical and psychological trauma.”
The Chief Justice has launched two crucial resources in the fight against human trafficking: the Trafficking in Persons Sentencing Guidelines and also Bench Book and the Training Manual for Protection Officers.
