MDF warns against sensational statements and cospiracy theories over plane crash

Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has expressed concern over the spread of sensational statements and conspiracy theories on social media and other means regarding the Vice President’s plane crash, pointing out that it could be detrimental to national security and lead to instability.

In a statement signed by its Public Information Officer, Emmanuel Mlelemba, the MDF urges citizens to desist from spreading what it calls unfounded and negative sentiments.

The statement further says that the crash, which resulted in the the loss of a sitting Vice President, key government officials and well experienced security personnel, is a significant loss to the nation both politically and in terms of security.

The MDF cautions that it would not want to be perceived as an adversary towards its citizens during  this period of mourning.

At this point, MDF calls for patience, rationality, sanity, and order by all to transition smoothly during this difficult time.

MDF warns the public that those perpetrating such malicious sentiments, if found, will face the long arm of the law.
