Chitipa Police rescue suspected thief from angry mob

Police in Chitipa have rescued a suspected thief, Lenwell Mwachitete, 30, from an angry mob that was baying for his blood.

Mwachitete, from Kasisi Village in Traditional Authority Mwaulambya, was accused of stealing a motorcycle on May 12 and was spotted leaving for Tanzania on Thursday, May 17, 2024, leading to a confrontation with the mob.

Chitipa Police publicist, Mathews Mfune, said they received a tip from well-wishers, and police arrived promptly and rescued Mwachitete. The incident has led to a condemnation of mob justice by the police.
