Umthetho Cultural Festival gets underway

The 2024 edition of the two-day Umthetho Cultural Festival at the foot of Hora Mountain in Mzimba is underway.

Mzimba Heritage Association (MZIHA) General Secretary, Kingsley Jere, says they estimate a turnout of over 10,000 and all is set for the festival that is expected to attract people from Zambia, South Africa and Tanzania.

The festival will reach its crescendo on Saturday, with President Dr Lazarus Chakwera expected to be in attendance.

This year marks 10 years of the reign of Inkosi Ya Makhosi Mmbelwa V. According to Inkosi Ya Makhosi Mmbelwa V, on Friday, 2 August 2024, they will be going to Mzalangwe to pay homage to the tomb of Inkosi Ya Makhosi M’mbelwa I.

Some of the activities lined up for the cultural festival include hiking of Hora Mountain, beer drinking, and meat feasts.

This year’s festival is being held under the theme: “Tradition, Catalyst to Fight Climate Change.”
