Vice President of the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) for the Eastern Region Hasheem Banda has resigned from his position.
Banda disclosed his resignation during a press briefing in Zomba.
He cited an example of his recent embarrassment where he was barred from attending a National Governing Council Meeting over the weekend in Blantyre by “boys” who communicated that they were sent by regional governors of the party to act that way.
He said his decision aims at protecting both his integrity, that of his family and his security.
Commenting on Banda’s resignation, UDF Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Mwawa, said the party has welcomed Banda’s resignation despite submitting it when the party was waiting his side of the story.
Mwawa said senior officials of the party are not aware that Banda was denied entry into the NGC Meeting.
