Police at Jenda in Mzimba have arrested three men for allegedly assaulting a 40-year-old man, Augustin Mafuleka who later died on August 24, 2024 while receiving treatment at Mzuzu Central Hospital.
The suspects, identified as John Phiri, 26, Richard Phiri, 25, and Jailos Phiri, 28, were apprehended on Monday night.
According to Macfarlen Mseteka, the Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police, the suspects and Mafuleka were involved in a fight at a drinking spot in Luwerezi, reportedly over beer.
“During the altercation, the three men assaulted Mafuleka severely, and later died at Mzuzu Central Hospital,” said Mseteka.
The three suspects have been charged with murder which is contrary to section 209 of the penal code and will appear before court soon.
