One of the participants at this years’ Malawi National Spelling Bee Regional Final, Laurent Maxwell from Katsumwa Primary School, is hopeful that the contest will polish his English skills, in both spoken and written form.

Maxwell, a 15-year-old, whose school is from Nsaru in Lilongwe, has said this as 250 primary and secondary school learners from the country’s Central Region are contesting at the Malawi National Spelling Bee Regional Final today in Lilongwe.

Contestants

There are 35 Urban and Rural schools and 18 of them are primary while 17 are secondary schools from Lilongwe, Dowa, Salima, and Kasungu districts respectively.

The victors of the tournament will book a place at the continental contest, which will be held in Abuja, Nigeria in December this year.
