Beneficiaries of the Social Cash Transfer Programme(SCTP) in Likoma District have expressed their satisfaction with the newly-introduced electronic payment system, which aims to address the difficulties previously experienced with the manual payment method.
During a Know Your Customer registration exercise in Likoma, beneficiary Catherine Kumatenje from Madimba in the district said with the new system, theft and unnecessary expenses — which were frequent with manual payments, will be eradicated.
Another beneficiary, Charles Misili, said the initiative is convenient. “I will be able to receive the money even when I am away, and standing in a queue for hours will be a thing of the past,” said Misili.
Gilbert Kaponda, Principal Social Welfare Officer in the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, said the Know Your Customer exercise is crucial for the SCTP and all social protection programmes as it ensures that all beneficiaries are accurately identified and their information properly documented.
