Philanthropist Chacha steps In to support bright student

A 14-year-old girl from Thyolo, who had lost hope of attending secondary school despite excelling in her Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE), has received a lifeline from local philanthropist Chawezi Banda, popularly known as Chacha.

The only girl from Gunda Primary School in Luchenza Zone to be selected to a national secondary school, Grace Kalondole, faced the possibility of missing out after being selected to Nkhamenya Secondary School in Kasungu.

According to the school’s headteacher, Emmanuel Sulani, Grace lives with a single-parent with no financial support available.

“She is a hardworking and disciplined girl. We feared her dreams would be shattered because there was no hope of her going to school on Monday,” explained Sulani.

However, help has come through Banda, who is already supporting six other girls with school fees. She has now added Grace to the list of beneficiaries under her sponsorship.

Speaking on the gesture, Chacha said her commitment is inspired by the desire to empower girls through education.

“I believe every girl deserves a chance to achieve her dreams, no matter the challenges she faces. Grace has proven herself through hard work, and it would have been painful to see her talent wasted because of financial problems,” said Chacha.

Community members in Thyolo have since commended Banda, describing her as a beacon of hope for many vulnerable learners in the district.
